Why am I so emotional after my ADHD diagnosis?

For some people finally getting their ADHD diagnosis isn’t exactly a calm and happy period.

It can be complicated by:

Anger

Tears

Sadness

Frustration

Confusion

Impatience

For some people their ADHD symptoms get worse for a period, especially as they relate to emotional regulation.

Whilst for some there’s a sense of relief of having an explanation and perhaps some positive emotions of things starting to make more sense that’s not everyones experience.

If that’s you I see you.

If you’re on the diagnostic pathway with someone you care about be it your child, your partner or family member, please be aware this can happen.

It’s OK to be upset.

To grieve for the life you might have had if you’d known sooner.

Now you DO know you can start building a future with your ADHD in mind.

Try not to rush past those emotions and move onto “so what do I do next?”

Just be with them.

What comes next can wait a little while.
